Crystal Mathews
My family is comprised of farmers, fisherman, mechanics, teachers, warriors and healers.
They served in the Marine Corps, Navy, Army, Coast Guard, and Air Force.
They served in WWI, WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam.
My Great-Uncle received a Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart.
My Grandfather was a Captain in the Navy.
My Father was a Coastie--which is how he ended up in Cape May, NJ where he met my Mother.
I reflect on the strength, resilience and survival of my ancestors-- without which I would not be here today.
I honor the interconnectedness of all my relations. I am grateful for my Shawnee relatives, and Indigenous Elders for
showing me how to live on the Red Road and embrace Indigenous ways of knowing.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, currently serving as an outpatient therapist at a Veterans Affairs Community Based Clinic.
I practice with a balance of head and heart wisdom. Integral to my work is being compassionately and genuinely present.
I weave together modern knowledge and wisdom from my Indigenous Elders to create a therapeutic container where Veterans
can heal their deep soul wounds by awakening their innate healing wisdom.

"I salute the light within your eyes where the whole universe dwells.
For when you are at the center within you, and I am at that place within me, we shall be one."
